University of Pittsburgh welcomes students back to Oakland campus - 5 streets closed to traffic, 17 streets restrict metered parking

The University of Pittsburgh has started to welcome students back onto the Oakland campus and into the Oakland neighborhood today, August 10, and will continue to stage student arrival through August 31, 2020.

In order to maximize the efficiency of student move-in and to follow health and safety guidelines, specific move-in dates and times will be utilized for students. To accommodate, 5 neighborhood streets will close to traffic and metered parking on 17 neighborhood streets will be restricted from 7:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. each day – including weekends.

University of Pittsburgh Police will be on-hand to mitigate traffic congestion.

Carlow University, Carnegie Mellon University, Chatham University, Duquesne University, and Point Park University students will also be returning to campus in the near future. More details below.

 

Oakland street closures from August 10 through August 31 include:

  • Bigelow Boulevard between Forbes Ave. & Fifth Ave.
  • University Place between Fifth Ave. & O'Hara St.
  • Lothrop Street between Fifth Ave. & Victoria St.
  • N Bouquet Street between Engineering Dept. Dr. & O'Hara St.
  • Thackeray Street between O'Hara St. and Fifth Ave.

Oakland street parking impacted by the University of Pittsburgh student arrival procedures from August 10 through August 31 (and the number of metered parking spaces affected) include:

  • Bigelow Boulevard from Forbes Ave. to Fifth Ave. – 28 metered spaces
  • Bigelow Boulevard from Fifth Ave. to O'Hara St. (PAA-side) – 8 metered spaces
  • Bigelow Boulevard from Fifth Ave. to O'Hara St. (Soldiers & Sailors-side) – 9 metered spaces
  • Bigelow Boulevard from O'Hara St. to Ruskin St. – 22 metered spaces
  • N Bouquet Street from Engineering Dept. Dr. to Fifth Ave. (both sides) – 20 metered spaces
  • S Bouquet Street from Forbes Ave. to Fifth Ave. – 9 metered spaces

Student arrival and orientation at five other universities in or near Oakland will also be taking place in the weeks ahead. Each university has their own specific COVID-19 Return-to-Campus requirements. Please contact the university directly for details.

 

Carlow University

New Student Orientation will be held Friday, August 21 thru Sunday, August 23.  No parking or traffic adjustments are anticipated because only Carlow students are being hosted.

 

Carnegie Mellon University

Freshmen students move in on Wednesday, August 19 thru Sunday, August 23 between 9:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. each day. Upper-class students move in Monday, August 24 thru Sunday, August 30. Fall 2020 Term begins Monday, August 31, 2020.

 

Chatham University

Freshmen student residents move-in on Wednesday, August 19 and Thursday, August 20. Upper-class student residents move-in on Saturday, August 22. Fall 2020 Term begins Monday, August 24, 2020.

 

Duquesne University

Freshmen student residents are moving in on Sunday, August 16 through Tuesday August 18.

  • Sunday, August 16, 2020: 12:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. (275 students)
  • Monday, August 17, 2020: 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. (275 students)
  • Tuesday, August 18, 2020: 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (550 students)

Upper-class student residents will move in over Friday August 21 through Monday, August 24. Note: Upper-class students will be moving their belongings in spread out over the month of August and then will just physically return to live on campus during the weekend noted.

 

Point Park University

Freshmen students and Transfer COPA students will move-in Sunday, August 23, Monday, August 24 or Tuesday, August 25. Upper-class students will move-in Thursday, August 27 through Saturday, August 29.
